Day trip from Otaru area

There is a railroad that circles around the Central Hokkaido area. From Sapporo Station, Otaru – Yoichi – Niseko – Oshamanbe (Hakodate Main Line). On the other side is Shin-Sapporo – Kitahiroshima – Chitose (airport) – Tomakomai – Shiraoi – Noboribetsu – Muroran – Lake Toya – Oshamanbe (Chitose and Muroran Main Lines). There are two National Parks in this area. There is one Geopark. It is a complex area of nature, history, Ainu culture, and modern urban development.

Yoichi - Shakotan Area

This is the Niseko Shakotan Otaru Kaigan National Park area. The coastline is lined with strange rocks and many tunnels. The inland area is an undeveloped (unspoiled) chain of mountains. At the tip of the range is the popular Cape Kamui. The Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery offers tours, tastings, and shopping. Yoichi is also home to many famous wineries.

Niseko Resort Area

Niseko, home of the world-famous Niseko Ski Resort, is also in the National Park area of Niseko Shakotan Otaru Kaigan National Park. Fuji (Mt. Yotei) and the Niseko mountain range area. There are many outdoor experiences to be enjoyed on the Shiribetsu River, such as rafting, trekking, mountain climbing, camping, and horse trekking.

Toyako Onsen Area

It is a national park area of ​​Shikotsu-Toya National Park, and also a global geopark area represented by Mt. Usu and Mt. Showa-Shinzan. Lake Toya is a large caldera lake with a circumference of 46 km, and due to its large amount of water, it is an ice-free lake that does not freeze even in the cold of Hokkaido. Pleasure boats that go to and from the central island are popular.

Noboribetsu Onsen Area

This is a global geopark area. Noboribetsu Onsen is a representative hot spring in Japan that has been popular for a long time as a hot spring department store where you can enjoy nine different types of hot springs. There are many hot spring outlets and fumaroles in the back of the hot spring town, and the appearance of these boiling cauldrons has been described as “Jigokudani” (Hell Valley). There is a bear park, aquarium, and theme park to entertain guests.

Lake Shikotsu - Shiraoi Area

The National Museum of the Ainu People is located in Shiraoi-cho. It is the first comprehensive museum in Japan to provide visitors with an accurate understanding of the history of the Ainu culture through materials, hands-on experience, and food. Mount Tarumae, which has repeatedly erupted. Lake Shikotsu is one of the clearest lakes in the world (about 360m deep) and Lake Utonai (registered under the Ramsar Convention) is home to about 270 species of wild birds and waterfowl. It is a natural, historical and cultural area.
