Autumn leaves viewing at two of Hakodate's famous spots
For Hakodate's autumn leaves, we'll introduce you to a stroll along the foot of Mt. Hakodate and Miharashi Park (Kosetsuen). The autumn leaves at the foot of Mt. Hakodate have a deep yellow to brown colour and stand out against the blue sky.
Please check out Hakodate walking MAP. The map will start at Yachigashira Station, the starting and ending point of the Hakodate City Tram. From here, ① you will proceed to the precincts of Hakodate Hachiman Shrine and ② walk through Hakodate Park, one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots. ③ As the ropeway to the top of Mt. Hakodate brings you up, you will see an expansive view of the autumn leaves at the foot of the mountain with the sky and sea right below your eyes. The Motomachi area (Western part), lined with fashionable buildings, is a wonderful sight to see when exploring the area. The view of the Hakodate Port from Hachiman-zaka Hill during this season is recommended (model course is about 5 km).

A tunnel of autumn leaves awaits you in the spotlight on an early autumn evening. This is Hokkaido's only Nationally Designated Cultural Property Garden, and with over 150 different species of trees under management, it's an exceptionally beautiful place to visit. Maple, Japanese Maple and Dodan-Tsutsuji Azalea trees can be admired on a leisurely walk. The Kosetsuen is a garden (the former Iwafune Garden) in Miharashi Park. You can enjoy a happy time walking on the red carpet.
Walking or taking a bus (in front of Yukura Shrine tram station) is recommended from the Yukawa tram station to get to Kosetsuen. Walk through Hakodate's common residential area or enjoy the view from the bus window.

Delicious! Freshly baked Odango dumplings on a stick
This long-established Japanese confectionery shop has been loved by locals since being established in 1966. Their signature product, kushi-dango (rice cake dumplings on a stick), made with Hokkaido rice, has the biggest feature of being as resilient and chewy as freshly made rice cakes. In addition to the three standard types of flavours such as sesame, soy sauce and red bean paste, there is also a limited edition flavour available for a limited time.
They also offer Dorayaki (Japanese red bean pancake), Daifuku (mochi stuffed with sweet red bean paste) and Manju (steamed bun stuffed with sweet red bean paste), so why not stop by on your way through?
