A stroll through the city's two famous spots to view the autumn leaves.
The center of Sapporo has a lot of greenery and is surprisingly close to areas suitable for viewing the autumn leaves, such as Odori Park in the center of Sapporo, the garden of the Hokkaido Government Office, the botanical garden, the Hokkaido University campus, Nakajima Park, Maruyama Park and Hokkaido Shrine Chinju Forest. You can also feel close to autumn leaves along the Toyohira River and from the center of the city to Mt. Okura or Mt. Maruyama.
We'll show you two ways to enjoy the autumn leaves.
Please check out Around Hokkaido University walking MAP. Start from the north exit of Sapporo Station. ① Head towards Ginkgo Avenue. This is a popular place featured in many TV shows and magazines. The shining golden tree tunnel is stunning. ③ Poplar Avenue is also beautiful. The inside of Hokkaido University is filled with trees that have been carefully preserved to protect a virgin forest. As you leave the campus, ④ check out the magnificent autumn leaves of the Seika-tei Pavilion. You will then pass by the botanical garden and proceed to the garden of the Hokkaido Government Office.
Please check out Nakajima Park walking MAP. Leave the Nakajima Park Subway Station and enter the park. Around Ayame Pond, there are many famous landmarks, including ① Hassouan Tea Room, ② Toyohirakan, Observatory, Kitara, Hokkaido Museum of Literature, Kamokamo River, Nakajima Sports Center, Yahiko Shrine, and Gokoku Shrine, before proceeding to Horohira-bashi Subway Station. The park's stunning autumun colours will make you want to take lots of photos. You can also take pictures from the restaurants on the upper floors of nearby high-rise hotels.
